If there is a fire that has got out of control or somebody trapped under or in something the fire service can help.
Ambulance
If anybody is hurt or injured that needs urgent attention call the ambulance to help assist the patient.

Doctor
An appointment must be made to visit a doctor.
Immigration medicals are available at local Medical Centres but blood tests and x-rays for these are not.
Residents north of the Hurunui River usually go to Amuri Community Health Centre and South of the river usually attend Waikari Health Centre.

If an immigrant is here with a visa lasting 2 or more years, you can register at a medical centre and the charges are approximately as follows, however if the visa is for less than 2 years then costs are at least double that. You may only register at one clinic.
Approximate costs if you are registered:
Adult visit is usually $32
Child visit $25
Accident $21 for all adults, slightly less for children.
It is recommended that all children are immunised.

The doctor can advise if specialist visits are needed and will give a referral.

Health and Life Insurance is available but can be quite expensive, it is advisable to discuss with your employer before agreeing to Insurances as you may already be covered by ACC.
